Product details

An exciting release, this is our first time offering a coffee from Acatenango in Guatemala. This coffee is both approachable and wonderfully complex. The base flavours are in the milk chocolate and caramel range, with layers of subtle flavours like fig, tangerine, cardamom, and plum. The perfect complex and comforting coffee to kick off the cooler months.

About the Producer: Max Perez is a fifth-generation coffee farmer hailing from Huehuetenango, where his family has long managed a farm under the care of his father. Fifteen years ago, Max and his wife seized the opportunity to purchase an abandoned farm in Acatenango, which they transformed into what is now Finca La Hermosa. Investing heavily in renovating the neglected property (uprooting old plants, tilling and maintaining fields, planting shade trees, and building a wet mill) Max took on considerable risk in a volatile coffee market.

His commitment goes beyond profit; he views coffee farming as a long-term investment, an adventurous lifestyle rooted in hope for future generations. After exploring potential regions for his new project, Acatenango turned out to be the right choice for Max Perez. Why? Max responds, "When two magnificent volcanoes dominate a landscape at the perfect altitude with mineral-rich soils, doubt quickly transforms into certainty."

NOTES FROM THE MASTER ROASTER:

Acatenango is a new Origin for Yamabiko, we were really surprised at the complexity of flavours from a Guatemalan coffee. A combination of a fantastic region and excellent farming practices.

This is a flavour profile that I really love, upfront it tastes like a very approachable coffee, with comforting notes of milk chocolate, caramel and nuts. However, as the coffee begins to cool and you keep sipping, it reveals layers of subtle fruit flavours. Like a cliffhanger that keeps you coming back for more.

ABOUT THE ART

National Bird of Guatemala

The artwork was inspired by Guatemala and the coffee itself. The art brings to mind comfort, and there is also a Quetzal bird featured on the art, a bird that can be found in the mountain regions where the coffee is grown.
